Good catch, Aaron, on a story i don't think the TD or others have caught. Losing ICL may seem like a speck on the eye of the local economy, but it has been the ONLY ongoing customer for THE CITY-OWNED Port. Have you called the mayor's office to see if they're even aware of this loss? Anyone on City Council?
How much does the CITY lose on this port each year, or is it making a profit? Does anyone know or care?
It would be interesting to see how much the Port would be worth if the city SOLD IT (once the economy turns around) to someone who could use a big parking lot with lots of cranes right beside I-95. Considering the Region's pitch as the HUB of Virginia's commerce, seems like there should be some discussion about doing something different with the Port -- other than being a little known agency of the city.
Maybe that's where they should build the new marina -- maybe call it Marlboro Harbor?
