Heard on the street: Golf course might be sold

Aaron Kremer September 2, 2009 1

brickshireThe Golf Club at Brickshire, a relatively new public/private golf course in New Kent County, might be sold to another chain of courses.

The current owner, Blue Green Golf, might be in the process of selling the course to Traditional Golf Properties, which owns three other courses around Richmond, including Royal New Kent, which abuts Brickshire.

An official with Blue Green Golf said he cannot comment because the company is publicly traded. Several calls to Brickshire and to Traditional Golf Properties were not returned.

However, an employee at the club said that he and other employees had received paperwork about how payroll would transition to the new owner.

It’s unclear how a possible deal might affect members or patrons who pay greens fees. Greens fees on the weekends are $49, including cart.

Construction on Brickshire, which was designed by Curtis Strange, started in 1999.

Traditional Golf Properties lets members of any of its courses play at any other course. The courses include Royal New Kent, Kiskiak, the Crossings and Stonehouse.
