Reporter turned event planner?
Hardly.
We had about 60 people attend at Plant Zero last week when we put on a business journalism panel discussion. And in what I believe to be a good sign, many of the attendees stayed until after the presentation to ask more questions.
One of the points I mentioned was that a business seeking national exposure may first want to try the local scene. It’ll be a nice warm-up/trial run, and if it’s an exciting enough business, reporters will email one another.
I just heard from a Richmond-based business writer who was on our panel. Phaedra Hise will be interviewing and writing about Vinci Pro, a company we profiled here, in an upcoming issue of Fortune Small Business. Lots of our stories end up on CBS 6 and occasionally we correspond with reporters from the Wall Street Journal.
So I guess that makes us like the minor leagues. Wait, that’s not the sort of thing you’re supposed to say about yourself.
