Local product makes TV debut

Al Harris September 21, 2009 1

A Richmond company that makes a product called the ‘”zprbag” just wrapped up a week-long test of its first direct response TV advertisement.

The zprbag (teenage texting translation: zipper bag) is the brainchild of Chris and Kat Costello. The purse made up of different colored strips of fabric that can be zipped together to make different combinations.

In February, the company forged an exclusive marketing and manufacturing deal with Harvest Direct, a company that sells products through direct response TV advertising.

Last week, the first zprbag ad ran on Discovery Kids, Nick Toon, Toon Disney and ION Kids, along with a limited number of spots on MTV, VH1, Nick and TheN. (You can view the spot on the zprbag website.)

Chris Costello said that they are still crunching the numbers, but he said he thinks it went well and expects to run another test this fall.

“We got most of our sales on the weekend — kind of nerve-racking to launch on Monday and get to Thursday without many sales — but we got more folks on Friday than we got the whole week, more folks on Saturday than we got on Friday, and more on Sunday than we got on Saturday,” Costello said.

Costello said they will most likely tweak the ad and offer more color choices the second time around.

    Chris-

Same thing for me. I was featured on a few shows on A&E on a Monday night and we had NO response until the weekend. Now we get bombarded on the weekends and crickets during the week. I think with so many other options during the week, people get caught up on TV on the weekends. Such is the times.

    Congrats.
