Nominating time for small-business awards

September 25, 2009 by Aaron Kremer

grctwThe deadlines to nominate a small business for two big awards are approaching.

The Greater Richmond Companies to Watch event, an annual awards banquet highlighting about a dozen of the most promising startups in Central Virginia, is open for nominations. The deadline is Sept. 30, although it might be extended.

Companies can nominate themselves or other firms by clicking here or visiting the website.

Last year, about 100 companies were nominated.

Of the 43 companies selected in previous years, 22 have raised venture capital, raised private funding or had a successful sale, said Carl Johnson, who helped start the event four years ago.

The Greater Richmond Companies to Watch is being held at the downtown Capital Ale House on Oct. 29. (You can read more about it in a previous story here.)

The judges include venture capitalists, angel investors and local consultants.

Also of note: Virginia Business Magazine is accepting nominations for the small-business success story of the year. You can apply here.

That deadline is Oct. 9.
