Put on your poker face, for a cause

November 3, 2009 by Al Harris

gambleTime to get out your lucky dice and put on your poker face.

The second annual Roll 2 Rebuild fundraiser will be held at the Science Museum this Thursday night from 6:30 to 9:30.

The casino night event is organized by Rapport, a group of young real estate professionals, and will benefit ElderHomes, a non-profit group that helps older people in the community without funds to update their homes with accessibility improvements such as wheelchair ramps.

Matt Barber, a board member of the group, said they hope to sell 400 tickets at $25 a piece. Barber also said the group wrapped up sponsor solicitation on Friday and raised a total of $4,000 from 12 sponsors.

“As you can imagine it’s been a bit trickier getting money out of people,” Barber said.

Last year the group raised more than $7,000 from the event.

Attendees can play black jack, poker, roulette, and simulated horse races—of course no actual gambling. There will also be an open bar and catering by Groovin’ Gourmet.

Tickets can be purchased at the Richmond Association of Realtors offices or at the door.
