The Herd: new hires, promotions and a few departures for 11.4.09

careersJosh Allen has joined Transact Capital Partners as a senior analyst. Allen brings over two years of investment banking experience in corporate debt research, and mergers and acquisitions. Allen graduated from Virginia Tech.

Mary Paige Price has joined Medicus Staffing as a health care recruiter.  Price previously worked at Medical Office Services as a HR manager/recruiter.  Price attended VCU, where she received her undergraduate degree and is currently working towards her MBA with an emphasis in human resources.

Marketing:

Jennifer Linton has left Elephant Insurance, where she was director of marketing. The company, which just started selling car insurance in Virginia, is looking to fill the position with someone who has experience with direct mail, TV, and working within a budget, according to brief phone interview with Andrew Rose, the president and CEO of the firm. EdgeMark Partners has four new associates:

Ed Hughes
is database marketing director. A graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, Hughes has over 25 years of marketing experience, Previously, he was principal of GeoBase Consulting. He has also served as vice president of direct marketing, insurance/investments at Harte-Hanks Data Technologies in Billerica, MA, and has held positions with Claritas Corporation, CDP Marketing, Okra Marketing, and Urban Decisions Systems.

Erin Lee has joined the creative services team as a copywriter. A graduate of JMU, Lee’s previous experience includes editor and copywriter for Circuit City’s website and editorial assistant with Austin, TX-based Sheshunoff Information Services.

Brad Sitterson
has joined the account services team as an account manager. A graduate of VCU, he was most recently with Direct Mail Solutions.

Terri Andrus
has rejoined the company as an account manager, a position she held for five years before leaving to pursue a degree in accounting. She most recently worked for Perrin Quarles Associates.

Outdoor Living Brands
hired Sharon Braithwaite as the new director of national business development for their flagship exterior lighting brand, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives (OLP).

Law

The personal injury law firm Allen, Allen, Allen & Allen hired Nathan J. D. Veldhuis and Priscilla R. Woody as new associate lawyers.

Veldhuis will work in Allen & Allen’s Fredericksburg office. He was most recently with the law firm of Tremblay & Smith, LLP, where he focused his practice on personal injury, medical malpractice and mental health law. Veldhuis serves as an adjunct professor and lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law. He is a 2004 graduate of George Mason University School of Law, received his Masters of Arts in biomedical ethics from  UVA and a BA from Liberty University.

Before joining Allen & Allen’s Richmond office, Woody served as defense counsel for Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company for 12 years. Woody received her J.D. from the UVA School of Law and her undergraduate degree from VCU.






Big Business

MeadWestvaco named Alejandro (“Alex”) Cedeño vice president, global innovation. Cedeño previously worked at Procter & Gamble, where he was involved in technology, product, process and packaging research and development, as well as brand management and new business development. A native of Cuba and a citizen of the United States, Alex obtained his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master’s in chemical engineering from the University of Wisconsin.

Leaving town:

Igor Jekauc, a former engineer at Qimonda, has left Richmond and joined Texas Instruments in Dallas as a Process Engineer. Jekauc was also the owner of several Richmond area Liberty Tax franchise territories which he sold following the most recent tax season. Igor Jekauc graduated from VCU with degrees in Electrical Engineering, Physics and an MBA with a concentration in Finance. .

Patrick Skaggs has left Richmond, where he worked as assistant general manager at the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond since July 2005. He is now an assistant general manager at the Georgia World Congress Center.

Moving on Up: Promotions:

Ed Sheffield was recently named chief pilot at  Martinair, a local charter airline firm. Sheffield joined Martinair in 2001 and has held pilot positions on various aircraft under Martinair management.  Prior to Martinair, Sheffield served 16 years as a corporate pilot with Chesapeake Corporation. He is a 1980 graduate from UVA with a degree in civil engineering.

Maria Brown
has been promoted to vice president of programs at the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation. She joined the VECF in 2008 as Senior Director of Initiatives and Technical Assistance. Brown has a bachelor’s degree from Hollins University and a master’s degree in social work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Bryan Clark Green is the new Director of Historic Preservation at Commonwealth Architects.  He has a master’s and Ph.D from UVA in architectural history and an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame.
