deedsmcdonnellRichmond area businesses, associations and leaders rallied for Gov.-elect Bob McDonnell in the last month of the campaign by donating large sums of cash to the campaign.

McDonnell raised $67,400 from area businesses and associations in October and another $65,165 from executives and business owners.

His opponent, Creigh Deeds, raised $46,500 from Richmond-based businesses, and $15,000 from high-profile individuals.

During the course of the campaign, McDonnell raised more than $629,000 from area businesses and groups. That is $1.68 for every dollar Deeds raised from businesses and groups.

All data is from the Virginia Public Access Project.

McDonnell’s top last-minute donors include $10,000 from Surco Specialty Construction, $10,000 from M&E Contractors LLC, $12,500 from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association (which gave $10,000 to Deeds), and $16,500 to Dominion (which gave $15,000 to Deeds).

McDonnell’s biggest support came from individuals, including $25,000 from Frank Genovese, president of the Rothbury Corporation; more than $20,000 from Dominion CEO Thomas Farrell; and $10,000 from apartment developer Michael Bogese Jr.

Farrell, who donated more than $60,000 over the course of the campaign, has been appointed to the McDonnell transition team.

In October, Deeds’s largest contribution from a Richmond business was $15,000 from Dominion. Dominion gave $60,000 to Deeds over the course of the campaign, compared with more than $99,000 it gave to McDonnell.

Deeds also received $10,000 from G. Gilmer Minor III and $5,000 from James Ukrop.
