SnagAJob is like the New York Yankees of business awards.
Shawn Boyer, founder of the Innsbrook-based jobs website, was just named Virginia Business magazine’s Person of the Year. The new issue hit mailboxes last week with an illustrated picture of Boyer on the cover.
Last year, Boyer was the SBA’s Small Business Person of the Year. He visited the White House.
And in July, SnagAJob was named one of the nation’s best small businesses to work for, according to the Society of Human Resource Management.
The company was also previously anointed with the Impact Award from the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce, which goes to businesses that are succeeding and contributing to the community.
From the cover story:
“Today SnagAJob is the nation’s fifth-largest online job recruiter overall and the leading Web source for part-time and hourly jobs. Annual revenues at the privately held company total more than $20 million. Before 2009, its yearly growth averaged 83 percent. The recession has taken a toll, but this year’s revenues are on track for a 20 percent increase. SnagAJob boasts more than 17 million registered job seekers and has garnered a growing collection of honors.”
Also interesting in the story:
“The company’s 2015 vision includes expanding into foreign countries and diversifying the client base (now dominated by national chains) to attract small and mid-sized businesses.”
In 2008 BizSense pointed out the irony of the media fawning over SnagAJob, since the company’s growth and that of other job boards comes at the expense of newspaper classified advertising, which used to be the cash cow of the business.
