Roper Brothers Lumber Company is closing its doors after today.
The company, which has not officially commented to BizSense, called some of its builder clients yesterday and told them that today is their last day.
A clerk at the Fredericksburg store also confirmed the lumber company, which was started in 1909, is closing.
And a building supply company that Roper bought in 2006 called Taylor Brothers Lumber Company is also closing in Lynchburg, according to a Lynchburg News & Advance story.
The company did not file for a Chapter 7 Liquidation in the Richmond bankruptcy court, according to a check of the records this morning, but a filing may be pending.
In July, 2008, BizSense reported that Roper laid off dozens of workers at various lumber yards and plants around Virginia. At the time, one employee at Roper said the company was shrinking its workforce by 20 percent to 40 percent.
BizSense will update the story as more news becomes available.
