“I pointed to the fact that coal miners would be a lot safer crawling around crawl spaces making energy improvements than underground in the mine,”
--Maybe so, but who is to say there would be enough work for all of those people to crawl around in crawl spaces!? Build the business so it makes sense to businesses and consumers because it saves money and energy, not because the government mandates it, taxes it and forces people to do it!

“From the big corporations to the small ones, we all need certainty. We need to know what government is going to require us to do so we can plan for the future,”
--This is the kind of approach we don't want or need. The free market will determine the best alternative energy sources, not the government! The ethanol example cited above is a perfect example!

My company helps corporations and government entities with their sustainability efforts, but it is always because we can show them how can save money and improve processes by doing it. On the other hand, Cap & Trade will make our energy costs "skyrocket" as admitted by Obama!

It's great to talk about all of the green jobs that will come with Cap and Trade. But what about the larger number of jobs that will be lost across all sectors due to higher energy costs. What good will green technology do when we can't afford it as our jobs go overseas due to high energy costs. Can we look at the big picture and not just our own back pocket?

Government regulations cannot make a business successful. Businesses that depend upon government regulation to become successful only hurt the overall economy and the taxpayer. For example, ethanol is an environmental and financial mistake. Each gallon of ethanol destroys three gallons of water plus the 10% ethanol added to our Richmond, Virginia gas reduces gas mileage by more than 10%. That is a tax on every citizen. Cap and trade would destroy America. It would only reap profits for those who depend upon the government to behave like the mafia and force businesses to pay. Cap and trade is nothing more than "pay to pollute" and export more US jobs to developing nations, leaving the US clean. Do not be misled--cap and trade is all about money--nothing else.

Cap and Trade in just another tax on something that is happening already, CO2 emmissions have gone down 64% in the last 10 years without Cap and Trade. The progressives just want more and more control. I am all for Green Energy but it should not be force on us or have to be subsidze it. Then they use scare tactics of Gobal Warming or Climate Change. I know climate change happens about four times every year and that the weather is a forecast. Because we are not 100% sure weather is't going to rain or be sunny, thats why we call it the WEATHER.

Al Gore is the mordern snake oil salesman.

I'm all for making the US a greener place. In fact , part of our business is making our client's businesses more green. Even though we have a vested interest in the country going green, I still don't want a government mandated prerequisite.

All one has to do is read the nonsense cap and trade bill last proposed. It's not about helping the environment, and it's not about allowcating money to fund green initiatives. It's about taxing and control of an industry which WILL blossom into the biggest single industry of the next 100 years. This industry WILL succeed. The government intervention will only hinder it's growth. Let private industry drive the machine.

One quick example of the bill shows that a homeowner can not sell his home without thousands of dollars of renovation work to meet government developed standards of efficiency. Between unemployment and home devaluation, that my make it impossible for 80% of the public to actually sell their home and buy another. That could keep the real estate market from ever coming back. (How many jobs are involved with that industry?)

One person in your article has been doing this for 30 years. Now, suddenly there is a critical need for governement intervention for his growth and/or survival?

It's the same old government story: The theory is terrific, but pathetic execution.
