Ice bar up for auction

Al Harris August 9, 2010 3

Once the centerpiece of a concept bar and lounge,  a humongous deep freezer is now up for sale by the restaurant’s new owners.

When Infuzion first opened in Richmond almost two years ago, it claimed to be the country’s first ice bar and charged patrons $15 to wear a parka and belly up to a bar made of ice, housed inside a giant walk-in freezer.

It might not have been the best business plan.

After the business failed and landlord David Wheeler couldn’t find a successor, he and his wife ended up launching their own restaurant in the space. BizSense wrote about the restaurant’s downfall and rebirth in September, which you can read here.

The Wheelers have recently renamed the restaurant Rose & Clay Café and have decided to divest themselves of the giant freezer to make way for an outdoor patio.

So if you’re interested in your very own ice bar, get your bid ready. It is being sold through At Your Bidding, Inc. which is accepting sealed bids through 5 p.m. Aug. 19.

That thing is pretty big. The only thing I see hindering a possible sale would be the cost of dismantling and reassembly.

Removal, Shipping (if necessary) and re-installation can all be handled through At Your Bidding. So if you’ve always wanted an Ice Bar in your garage, now’s your chance.

I wouldn’t be lying if I said it’s awful tempting to bid on this puppy in this heat.
