Mexican restaurant’s abrupt adios

plazaguadalajaraA Short Pump restaurant has been locked out of its space after more than five years in business.

Plaza Guadalajara was evicted from its property at 4348 Pouncey Tract Road after defaulting on its lease, according to a note on the door.

The 4,000-square-foot space sits in a retail strip center owned by Ledd Properties. The space is neighbored by Buffalo Wild Wings and Skate Nation, among other retailers.

Adam Ledd of Ledd Properties would not give specifics on why Plaza had been evicted but said he was sorry to see the Mexican restaurant go.

“I hate to see any of our retailers go, especially a restaurant that had survived the bulk of the downturn,” he said.

Plaza Guadalajara opened in 2007 to positive reviews.

A shame, the upside being there is no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Richmond. When dining with a friend at a favorite haunt I was once asked “What is on the menu?” My reply was “You already know, same as all the other Mexican restaurants.” That same line had been used on me at a a separate Mexican restaurant. Curious if other readers have favorite haunts of their own with specialty dishes they go out of the way for.

This is so sad. It was definitely not your typical Mexican food. We drove from the city for their yummy tacos al pastor. I can’t go back to eating at Mexico after having plaza guadalajara.

I absolutely adored this place!! They were the only mexican place with a frozen sangria maragarita that I’ve found in richmond. Tuesday half off margarita nights were the higlight of the week for me. I’m ver sad.
