BrownGreer promoted the following three employees to counsel:

Jennifer F. McCarthy, who joined the firm in March 2012, has been involved in all aspects of the claims review process.

Jay R. Mense, who joined the firm in early 2012, has been involved in various aspects of the review process.

Catharyn B. Teplansky, who joined the firm in February 2012, began work on designing and implementing close claims and reclassification processes.

Daniel Watkins joined Williams Mullen as an associate in the litigation department. Before joining the firm, Watkins worked as a summer associate at Fulbright and Jaworski in Dallas and Houston.

Mariah Daniel joined the law firm of Herman C. Daniel III, where she will practice estate planning and business law. Mariah previously worked in-house at JHM Hotels in Greenville, S.C., as director of legal services.

Spencer Katona joined Spotts Fain as an associate. He practices in the business section of the firm, representing lenders and borrowers in commercial real estate and commercial financing transactions, land use and development.

McCandlish Holton announced these hires:

Jennifer Long is an associate in the health-care practice group.

Emily Mathews is an associate in the litigation practice group.

Lindsey Strachan is a member of the litigation practice group and represents clients in insurance defense, premises liability defense and business litigation

Christian and Barton announced two new associates:

Harrison M. Gates is a member of the litigation practice group and will assist clients with general litigation matters, including contract and business tort disputes. Before joining the firm, he served as a law clerk in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia and the Circuit Court of Chesterfield County.

Charles C. Harris is a member of the firm’s health-care and business law departments.

Insurance

Kinsale Insurance announced the following hires:

Brian Mayer has joined as a product manager for the personal lines area. Mayer attended Northern Kentucky University.

Catherine Thrift joined as senior claims examiner. Thrift attended VCU.

Ella Carroll-Smith joined as an associate underwriter in the excess casualty division. Carroll-Smith attended William and Mary.

Josh Phipps joined as an associate underwriter in the general casualty division. Phipps attended Hampden-Sydney College.

Hunter Curle joined as an associate underwriter in the general casualty division. Curle went to James Madison University.

Carter Gradwell joined in the role of associate underwriter for the construction division. Gradwell attended Virginia Tech.

Ann Marie O’Flynn joined Markel Corporation as director and underwriter in its casualty facultative product line. O’Flynn has more than 15 years of casualty facultative and reinsurance experience.

Real estate

Tyler Miller joined Colliers International as an associate on the office brokerage team.

Pamela Heflin Strieffler joined Cushman & Wakefield | Thalhimer in the retail services group.

Banking

Dickinson Williams and Co. announced one promotion and one hire:

Lindsay C. Barnhart was promoted to associate. Prior to joining Dickinson Williams and Co., Barnhart was an analyst at Cobblestone | Harris Williams and a summer intern at BB&T Capital Markets.

Gray Messier joined the firm from Holliday Fenoglio Fowler, where he worked as an investment sales analyst in the firm’s Atlanta office. His previous experience includes working as an intern for CBRE’s brokerage department in Washington.

Higher education

The University of Richmond’s office of alumni and career services announced these hires:

Bonnie Graham joined as project manager of career and recruitment events. Graham received a degree in psychology from Virginia Tech and a master’s of education in counselor education/student affairs from Clemson University.

Lynn Busby McMullin joined as assistant director for regional initiatives, focused on alumni events. McMullin works with regional alumni volunteers to coordinate programs, including networking events.

Medicine

Glenn J. Kerr has joined OrthoVirginia as orthopedic physician specialist. Kerr specializes in total hip and knee replacement as well as sports medicine. He will see patients at the St. Francis office of OrthoVirginia.
