After more than 40 years in business, a Richmond seafood restaurant is sailing off into the sunset.

Skilligalee will serve its last meal July 12, according to a message posted on the restaurant’s website.

“We would like to thank everyone in Richmond for over forty years of wonderful memories. It has been our pleasure to serve our Richmond community the finest and freshest seafood available,” the message said.

The restaurant’s owner, Richard Stephenson, could not be reached for comment by press time.

Skilligalee is at 5416 Glenside Dr. between Staples Mill Road and West Broad Street. The 11,000-square-foot property sits on 1.3 acres and was most recently assessed by the county at $1.44 million. Stephenson is listed as the owner of the real estate, according to the most recent Henrico County records.

I hate seeing anyone close up. They’ve been around for so long. It’s such a cool place inside too. I hope someone else will take advantage and turn it into something great.

Too bad. Great place, odd location so maybe that’s why. It would be great to see some new life in that little corridor.

It may have been a great place once but it’s been stuck in the 80’s since….well…the 80’s.

‘Come on!
Those morons at Cracker Barrel (and Red Lobster) would not know what Shad Roe is, even IF it was on the menu!

Red Lobster is fine if you don’t care (or know any better), that the “Seafood” you’re about to eat was frozen for over 6 months just before it was deep fried.

I will be shocked if a resturant goes in.

I am not sad about the leaving, it was a great run and the place is dated now.

So if they lasted 40 years, what is the oldest resturaunt in Henrico?
