A Carytown restaurant that has been two years in the making is expected to be unveiled this week.

The Daily Kitchen & Bar at 2934 W. Cary St. is “definitely, probably” opening by the end of the week, said Michelle Williams, an operating partner of the Richmond Restaurant Group.

The eatery passed its health inspection this week but is still waiting on its ABC license, Williams said.

Richmond Restaurant Group has owned the 4,800-square-foot space, previously home to Glass & Powder board shop, since June 2011. It paid $795,000 for the property, and more than $285,000 worth of building permits have been filed on it since September 2011, according to city records.

“This is by far the biggest project we’ve ever undertaken in terms of scope,” Williams said.

The restaurant has hired 70 employees, she said. Trevor Knotts, formerly of Pescados and Pomegranate, is the chef.

The Daily Kitchen & Bar will have a “soft” opening for friends and family before opening to the public, Williams said.

Richmond Restaurant Group has six other restaurants: the Water Grill, two Hard Shell locations, the Hill Café, Europa and Pearl Raw Bar, which opened in March in the former deLux space.

Is there any information on the contractor(s) used for this project?

I saw work being done on the exterior of this building a few weeks ago but didn’t get the chance to take note of who was doing the work.

I believe DCP is the contractor, Johannas Design the architect, and HL Reed the interior designer. All first class folks, especially the architects at Johannas. They’ve done a number of restaurants around town, and they all look great.

No better team, I have worked with Helen Reed in the past, her great touch and style is all over, and in the best restaurants in DC too.
