Dolce Designs, an interior design firm and retail shop, moved last week from the Shoppes at Westgate to a 2,400-square-foot space at 11341 W. Broad St. in the Trader Joe’s-anchored Short Pump Station.

Owner Carol Giuffrida said she has a five-year lease on the new space that is nearly twice the size of the company’s previous home.

“The bigger space is allowing us to expand our furniture selection,” Giuffrida said. “It’s right near Trader Joe’s– how can you go wrong?”

Dolce Designs sells home furniture and accessories and also helps people design their home interiors.

The new space is double the size of the original shop.

“The bread and butter of the business is the interior design,” Giuffrida said.

Giuffrida launched the business in 1992 from her home. Dolce Designs had been at the Shoppes at Westgate for seven years before shutting down in May to prepare for the move. Giuffrida wouldn’t say how much the expansion will cost but did say it is being financed by Citibank. The company has two full-time and four part-time employees.

Short Pump Station is owned by Connecticut-based AmCap Inc. David Andrews, a broker with The Shopping Center Group, handles the leasing.

Also in the works for the shopping center is a new restaurant called Seven Stars Asian Café. It is moving into a space left vacant by Old River Cabinets.
