A local restaurateur who has spent more than a decade in the West End is launching a new concept to feed the Rams.

Nader Hagez plans to open Four Brothers Bistro & Grill at 711 N. Lombardy St. near VCU. Hagez said he’ll open next month in the approximately 900-square-foot space that was previously home to Great Wraps in the small strip center across from Kroger.

For Hagez, the new venture is a long time coming. He’s run Nader’s Bistro & Grill at 5401 Glenside Drive for 15 years.

“After 15 years, we’re ready to start with the next chapter,” Hagez said. “I’ve had my eye on the VCU area for quite a while.”

The name Four Brothers is in honor to Hagez’s three sons and a fourth who’s on the way.

He said the food at Four Brothers is inspired by his favorite delis in New York and Philadelphia. The menu will include Philly cheese steaks, burgers, pastrami and corned beef sandwiches, gyros, Reubens and turkey and tuna melts. Beer will be available by the bottle.

“I’m a great fan of Carnegie Deli in New York,” Hagez said.

Hagez said he has $50,000 of his own money ready to get Four Brothers open. He hopes to attract students nearby and will offer free delivery. He’ll also look to draw on hungry workers from the nearby DMV office and the Science Museum of Virginia.

Four Brothers will be able to seat about 35.

The restaurant will open in a highly competitive area filled with big brands and smaller concepts banking on student foot traffic to keep them in business. A new Panda Express is opening on West Grace Street, joining Chipotle, Panera and Noodles & Co. among the area’s national brands.

And in addition to smaller eateries like Christian’s Pizza and Harrison Street Cafe, a new hibachi concept is opening nearby at 411 N. Harrison St.

Hagez said he thinks his concept will be different enough to stand out and more locations could be in the works.

“This one I plan on franchising out,” he said. “I’m planning at least three or more in the Richmond area.”

I am going to miss Great Wraps, which was affordable and had decent quality for a chain-style restaurant.

You won’t even remember Great Wraps once Nader opens the doors. His family’s food is excellent.
