Richmond-based Herb Plant Nursery, The Grower’s Exchange, Celebrates 30 Years in Business

Richmond VA – March 17, 2015 – The Grower’s Exchange is celebrating its 30th year of business. To mark this milestone and celebrate their success, The Grower’s Exchange is holding a drawing during the month of March. Visitors to http://www.thegrowers-exchange.com/The_Growers_Exchange_30th_Anniversary_s/326.htm have 10 ways they can enter their name into the drawing for a $100 shopping spree on the website. One winner’s name will be drawn after March 31, 2015.

In 1985, the company began with a brick and mortar storefront in a former Texaco gas station in Carytown. At the time, the company sold perennials, annuals, and cut flowers, along with gardening accessories. Many of their plants were grown at their family-owned farm, a greenhouse and nursery operation in Charles City County approximately 25 miles east of Richmond. For over 20 years, The Grower’s Exchange stayed in the Carytown location providing plants to local customers. In 2008, the company launched their website, www.thegrowers-exchange.com, moving the business online in order to reach a nationwide audience. The company also decided to move away from selling many types of plants and toward specializing in herb plants.

The choice to focus the business on herbs allowed the company to become experts in this niche both in offering rare and exotic herb plants that few others sell and in growing and shipping live plants. Herb plants like rosemary, cilantro and thyme are readily found in stores and online. But unusual edible herb plants, such as feverfew, lemongrass, and bergamot, and medicinal herb plants, such as ashwagandha, arnica and brahmi, are harder to find. The company’s decision to sell mature plants meant buyers could immediately repot or plant the herb plants shipped to them instead of purchasing seeds and trying to grow the plants themselves.

The company also chose to grow non-GMO herb plants using sound growing practices. The plants at their farm are grown from non-GMO seeds. Additionally, their plants are treated with organically certified agents that allow them to protect their crop without the use of synthetically manufactured pesticides. These decisions have benefitted the company as concerns about the use of GMO seeds and pesticides have increased.

During their 30th-year celebration, The Grower’s Exchange is also saying thank you to their customers for their continued support by offering 10% off any order. New and returning customers can use the coupon code RVA2015 before midnight on 03/31/2015 to receive the discount.

The Growers Exchange is an online herb nursery specializing in an array of herb plants. With 30 years of experience, this family-owned small business provides high quality, healthy plants that ship directly to your door.
