ALR Technologies
The diabetes-focused medical device company announced it has signed a contract with Kansas City, Missouri-based Clay-Platte Family Medicine Clinic for use of its Health-e-Connect remote chronic care management system. The contract represents the first commercial deployment of the Health-e-Connect system.

Apple REIT
The downtown REIT filed a statement relating to the purchase of up to 457,000 common shares of stock from certain shareholders pursuant to the company’s share redemption program. The redemption price was $9.20 per share. The company expects to fund the repurchases through a combination of cash on hand and amounts borrowed under its revolving credit facility. The transaction is valued at $4.2 million.

CarMax (KMX)
The used-car retailer elected Marcella Shinder to serve as a director. Shinder is chief marketing officer of Nielsen N.V. and a former executive with American Express. The board’s membership was also increased from 10 to 11 directors.

Community Bankers Trust (ESXB)
Director Richard Bozard acquired 1,522 shares of common stock valued at $6,773. The April 16 transaction brings Bozard’s total shares owned to 126,929.

The holding company for Essex Bank filed its proxy disclosing the annual compensations of its top executives in 2014. President and CEO Rex Smith III received a total compensation package valued at $497,329 last year. That’s up from 2013, when his compensation totaled $414,838. His base salary increased from $325,000 in 2013 to $375,000 last year. The full statement can be viewed here.

The company will hold its annual shareholders meeting May 15 at 10 a.m. at its headquarters 9954 Mayland Drive. Business on the agenda includes election of directors, endorsement of executive compensations and appointment of an independent public accounting firm.

Eastern Virginia Bankshares (EVBS)
The holding company for EVB filed its proxy disclosed annual compensations for its top executives last year. Among them, President and CEO Joe Shearin received a total compensation package valued at $589,787 in 2014, up from $556,766 the previous year. His base salary increased from $318,135 in 2013 to $328,511 last year. The full statement can be viewed here.

Its annual shareholders meeting will be held May 21 at 10 a.m. at 156 Ruritan Lane, King William. Business will include election of directors, approval of executive compensations and appointment of a public accountant.

MeadWestvaco (MWV)
The packaging giant filed its 2014 annual report, which includes compensation packages for its top executives. Chairman and CEO John Luke Jr. received a total compensation package valued at $10.2 million, up from $6.3 million in 2013. The jump was due in large part to $1 million in compensation through the company’s non-equity incentive plan and a $3.2 million increase in pension value and non-qualified deferred compensation earnings – amounts he did not receive in 2013. Luke’s base salary remained $1.06 million.

Village Bank & Trust Financial (VBFC)
The Midlothian-based parent of Village Bank filed its proxy disclosing annual compensation packages for its top executives. President and CEO Bill Foster received a total compensation package valued at $397,261 in 2014, up from the $384,569 that previous CEO Thomas Winfree received in 2013. Foster was named CEO upon Winfree’s retirement in February 2014. Foster’s base salary in 2014 was $243,750. The full statement can be viewed here.
