Will you be my friend Print E-mail

We got our first friend request today.

It’s my second week working for BizSense.com as a marketing coordinator, and already the online world is helping out.

So far, I’ve been focusing the majority of my time on creating Myspace and Facebook pages. One of my goals is to bring new readers to the website, including business professions in their 20s.

With 24 friends and 34 page views, our MySpace page is steadily catching on.. Most of the friend requests I’ve sent out have gone to local Richmond businesses. Most already have strong social networks. I’m hoping to catch up to them soon.

The Facebook Fan Page didn’t catch on quite as fast, so I made a group for RichmondBizSense instead. Unlike a Facebook Fan Page, a group allows the administrator to send our invitations to his or her friends. 70 invites were sent out to fellow VCU students, and within 20 hours we gained 15 members. That’s almost a friend an hour.

So yeah, I spend my work day creating Myspace and Facebook pages. The other day I learned how to create a link to our homepage and Facebook page from the MySpace page with HTML coding. Plus, who can deny that feeling of accomplishment after you’ve designed your MySpace layout and all the little links and extras you added actually work?

Very interesting. Many of us are trying to understand how to effectively work with Facebook, MySpace and Second Life to reach our customers; a new generation of people who don't use the online tools the way the "older" generation does. Would love to hear more about your experience in how this is working but, more importantly, would be interested gathering tips on what works. Many thanks.
