checkinginsideEditor’s Note: Welcome to the first installment of a series we’re putting together to save business people time and money.  Each month we’ll find out where in Richmond you can get the best deal or service for a universal business need. (It took us six hours just to put together this list.) This month we’re searching for the best checking account. Most businesses should try to keep about a month’s worth of cash in the account. The balance is insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation up to $250,000. A normal balance might be between $5,000 and $10,000 for a start-up or small business. A small business savings account can earn more interest and is easily transferred to a checking account, so low or nonexistent interest rates are not a huge issue. Checking accounts vary depending on the minimum balance and maximum number of transactions. None of the local banks we talked with offer the first set of checks for free, however.
