Socialite/Reality TV Former Richmonder and New York Socialite Tinsley Mortimer (who was on the cover of a Virginia Living magazine) is in a new reality TV show on the CW called “High Society”. You can read a not-so-complimentary review here.

Technology: Les Venable has joined local computer support firm The HelpDesk Company as a senior sales representative. Venable, a graduate of Morgan State University, was most recently at Electronic Systems. Legal / Public Relations: Andy Poarch joined the Alliance Group as VP for Communications. Poarch, who studied at UVA for both his undergraduate and law degrees, was previously an attorney at Hunton & Williams.

Finance Tim Savage has joined the hedge fund consulting company Agecroft Partners as a managing director. Prior to Agecroft, Savage founded Oculus Capital Inc., a third-party marketing firm. He is a 1989 graduate of UVA and has a degree in economics. Nonprofits Steven Smith is the new music director for the Richmond Symphony. Smith was previously leading the symphony in Santa Fe, N.M. David Deal is the new executive director of the Hanover Tavern Foundation. Deal was previously a director of sales and marketing at Integrated Pharmacy Solutions. Deal is a graduate of Miami University in Ohio.

Commercial Real Estate: Susan F. Jones, a vice president at Grubb & Ellis|Harrison & Bates, was elected to the board of directors. Jones has been with the firm for nine years and is a retail brokerage specialist. Jones is a Virginia Tech graduate. Banking: Virginia Business Bank has named a new president. J. Jordan O’Neill will take over immediately, according to a news release issued last week. He replaces Terrie Spiro, who had been at the helm since September 2009. She took over from Merlin Henkel, who stepped down last fall. O’Neill, who went to UVA as an undergrad and to Georgetown for his MBA, was serving as the vice president and chief lending officer since October. Casteen III has been elected to Altria Group Inc.’s board of directors. Casteen is retiring August 1 as president of the University of Virginia, a post he has held since 1990. Financial: David W. For several years, Sparks ran a consulting business where he focused on the needs of small and start-up businesses. Mr. Sparks has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. Mr. Sparks is serving a second term as chairman of the New Kent County Board of Supervisors. Human Resources: Veronica A. Chapman has joined Titan Group LLC as New Senior Consultant. Law: Ron Page has left DurretteBradshaw to start his own firm, Ronald Page, PLC. Departures: Two directors were laid off from the Historical Society of Virginia to save money. James C. Kelly, director of museums, was let go.  Kelly’s responsibilities will now be handled by E. Lee Shepard, vice president for collections. COO Robert F. Strohm was also laid off. Stohm’s responsibilities will be handled by the new vice president for operations, Richard S. V. Heiman. Noel McElreath left Richmond’s Evergreen Investment’s Tattersall Advisory Group for Piedmont Investment Advisors in Durham, N.C. McElreath is a UNC-Chapel Hill graduate and was a senior portfolio manager at Tattersall for corporate bonds and credit derivatives.

Engineering

Jack Kay joined Acoustical Solutions Inc. in December 2009 as an environmental sales engineer. Kay works mostly with civil and mechanical engineers, municipalities and departments of transportation. He attended UNC-CH and graduated from Lynchburg College.

Sue Ann “SAM” Messmer will retire Feb. 1 from her positions at VCU as vice president for University Relations and Chief of Staff, Office of the President. Messmer came to VCU in 1972 and has served in numerous capacities throughout the university, including faculty member in the Art History department, associate dean and director of graduate studies of the School of the Arts, assistant vice provost for continuing studies and public service, vice provost for continuing studies and public service, vice provost for community and international programs and vice provost for university outreach.

New hires Alex Cherlin has joined Compound Profit in development. Compound Profit provides working capital and equipment to companies. Cherlin was previously with Maquet Getinge Group. He graduated with a degree in finance from the University of Florida.

Thomas Lisk has left LeClairRyan for the government relations division at Eckert Seamans Cherin and Mellott. Twenty-eight-year-old Richmond model Rozlyn Papa was eliminated from “The Bachelor” after allegedly engaging in what the show termed an "inappropriate relationship" with one of the dating show’s producers during filming. You can read more here.

John A. Young has resigned as CEO of Colfax Corp., a Richmond-based company that sells pumps and valves to heavy industry. Young had been at Colfax since its founding in 1995. He was replaced by Clay H. Kiefaber, 54, who was a vice president at Masco Corp., a Michigan-based kitchen and bath cabinetry company. You can read more in a Times-Dispatch story here. Kiefaber has an MBA from the University of Colorado and a BA from Miami University.
